Circling around Shilong

A Mesmerizing Journey from Shillong to Dawki: A Biker's Paradise

Embarking on an adventure-filled journey from Shillong to Dawki, I discovered a hidden gem nestled in the scenic landscapes of Meghalaya. With my trusty bike as my companion, I embarked on an unforgettable expedition, uncovering breathtaking vistas, charming villages, and the crystal-clear waters of the Umngot River. Join me as I take you on a virtual tour of this awe-inspiring route, capturing the essence of this enchanting part of India.

1. Shillong: Gateway to Natural Splendor

My expedition began in the heart of Meghalaya, Shillong. Known as the "Scotland of the East," this picturesque hill station mesmerized me with its lush greenery, cascading waterfalls, and colonial charm. As I rode through the winding roads, I caught glimpses of the city's vibrant culture, with its bustling markets, friendly locals, and delectable street food.

2. Sohra (Cherrapunji): A Rainforest Adventure

Leaving Shillong behind, I made my way to Sohra, commonly known as Cherrapunji, the place that holds the record for being one of the wettest places on earth. The journey to Sohra was a thrilling experience, as I rode through dense rainforests, witnessing nature at its most awe-inspiring. The sight of majestic waterfalls like Nohkalikai and Seven Sisters Falls left me speechless, their thunderous roars echoing in the air.

3. Dawki: The Jewel on the Umngot River

After bidding farewell to Sohra, I eagerly made my way to Dawki, the highlight of my journey. Dawki is a small border town known for its crystal-clear waters, which lend an ethereal beauty to the Umngot River.

As I reached Dawki, I couldn't resist taking a boat ride on the mesmerizing river. The sight of the riverbed beneath me, adorned with vibrant pebbles, was truly a surreal experience, akin to floating on a glass-bottomed village celebrated for its cleanliness and eco-conscious lifestyle. As I rode through the quaint village, I was captivated by its pristine surroundings, blooming gardens, and charming bamboo treehouses. The community's commitment to maintaining cleanliness was evident, with well-managed waste disposal systems and an inspiring sense of civic responsibility.

The Enchanting Umngot River:

The crown jewel of Dawki is undoubtedly the Umngot River. Known for its transparent waters, the Umngot River presents a spectacle unlike any other. As I stood on the banks of the river, I marveled at its pristine beauty, with the pebbled riverbed visible beneath the crystal-clear water. Taking a boat ride on the Umngot River was a surreal experience, as the boat seemed to float on a glass-like surface, revealing the hidden treasures of the river beneath.

Dawki Bridge: A Marvel of Engineering:

Spanning the Umngot River is the Dawki Bridge, an architectural marvel that connects India with Bangladesh. As I crossed the bridge, the panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes took my breath away. The bridge not only serves as a means of transportation but also provides a vantage point to soak in the awe-inspiring vistas of the river and the lush green hills that stretch into the horizon.

The intrinsic journey

Lost all sense about sound and silence.  In utter chaos am in absolute balance.  Excruciating pain enjoined with profound pleasure.  The grief of losing a loved one also brings the gravitas of stillness.  In a world where the leaf cannot know  the sweetness of the accompanying fruit  nor the fragrance of the flower that it spawns.  Here i am tasting the very source at the surface.  Lost all sense of the sacred and sacrilegious.  O’ Shambho, since i embraced you a speck  on the periphery seems to be the very center.  Valleys have turned into peaks.  What should have been utter confusion  has become crystal clarity.  I am a man with a man   A woman with a woman  A creature with a creature  A goblin among goblins  Just know with you i am you  Sadhguru  The nature of the mind is such that if you say, “I don’t want this,” only that will happen in your mind.  Now, if you say, ...

Breathing science

Yoga is one of the six orthodox readings of Indian philosophy. The first breath and it is the most important and forceful inhalation a human will ever take. The initial inflation of the lungs triggers enormous changes to the entire circulatory system, which has previously been geared towards receiving oxygenated blood from the placenta. The first breath causes a massive surge of blood into the lungs, the right and the left sides of the heart to separate into two pumps and the specialized vessels of fetal circulation to shut down seal off and become ligaments that support the abdominal organs. The first inhalation must be so forceful because it needs to overcome the initial surface tension of the previously inactive lung tissue. The force required to overcome that tension in three or four times greater than that of a normal inhalation. To summarise from the moment of birth, human are confronted by breath and gravity two forces that were not present in utero. To thrive, we nee...
